1. Mental conditioning
Begin with a positive mindset, recognising that anxiety and stress can have adverse effects. Strive to maintain a positive outlook not only for yourself but also for your partner and the entire family. Address all your concerns by seeking answers from your doctor in advance. It’s crucial to initiate this approach 2 to 3 months prior to the actual process, as the recruitment of eggs and sperm typically takes place during this timeframe.
2. Holistic approach for overall health
Adopt a holistic approach prioritising the essential role of both partners in ensuring optimal egg and sperm quality. Conduct a comprehensive health checkup for the couple, assessing parameters such as haemoglobin, diabetes, hypertension, thyroid levels, and vitamin levels. Initiate treatment and corrective measures at least two months before the planned conception. Both partners should commit to reducing or completely eliminating addictions such as alcohol, tobacco, and smoking. Cease unnecessary medications, including steroids, antiepileptics, painkillers, and gym supplements. Address obesity by achieving a BMI between 25 to 29 through a balanced diet and lifestyle changes. Commence pre-treatment measures 60 to 90 days in advance, incorporating essential elements like vitamin D, B12, iron, vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants such as coenzyme Q10, and micronutrients.
